or haven't tried it since Granny washed your mouth out with her old-fashioned harsh lye soap, you are in for a real treat!

Today's lye is much more refined and standardized, meaning soap makers can craft very gentle, cleansing bars. Strict calculations are used to make soap formulas, ensuring that all lye is converted into soap and no free lye remains.

In fact, most handmade soaps are "super fatted," meaning there are extra emollients left over after the saponification process.
